New Chrysler logo an attempt to stir sentiment?

The new logo Chrysler unveiled today is, in reality, only a slightly revised and updated version of the old Chrysler logo many of us grew up with.

If you're much of a 'car person' you'll probably recognize the familiar five point star set in a pentegon atop the word "Chrysler" in a bold, slightly stylized, sans serif font. The biggest change is the addition of the words "The New" which are positioned between the logomark and the brand text interupting a thin, horizontal line.

The New Chrysler Logo Design

Chyslers press release said this of the new logo...

The campaign's overall message conveys the pride, passion and commitment The New Chrysler has for building great vehicles, and creates excitement for what the future holds - new industry-leading cars and trucks with cutting-edge technology, high quality and increased fuel economy.

The new Chrysler logo seems to be an attempt to draw back a lost audience of consumers who have strayed from the Chrysler fold (and other domestic car manufacturers for that matter) over the years. The logo is a solid reminder of a stronger, more confident Chrysler whose automobiles are most remembered as 'top quality with more than a pinch of luxury'.

Chrysler's new logo may be a desperate attempt to stir consumer sentiment, but I hope they can follow through on this promised return of a Chrysler we loved and revered.
